Mulled Wine


1 bottle of red wine
160g castor sugar
Zest of one lemon
Zest of one orange
Juice of one orange
2 star anise
2 cinnamon sticks
5 cloves
1 tsp ground nutmeg
1 inch of fresh ginger


Place all ingredients into a large heavy saucepan and place on a medium heat.

Bring the pot to a simmer and turn down to a very low heat and just warm for about 15 minutes.

You don't want the wine to boil otherwise all the alcohol will evaporate!

If you want to mix things up, add a few shots of dark rum or brandy to the mix!
